A Willingness to Serve
Rick Womick is no stranger to serving our country and his service as State Representative in Tennessee’s 34th District is no different. Rick has proudly served our country and has faith in our future. Others may regard politics as a basis for gaining power and influence, but Rick sees politics as a chance to provide conservative leadership that will uphold our state’s slogan and ensure, “Tennessee…America at its Best!”
Proven and Tested Leadership
For Rick, common sense and patriotism go hand-in-hand. This is how he has always lived his life. After graduating from college in 1980, Rick became a public school teacher and high school football coach. In 1983, he entered the U.S. Air Force as an officer and served as an F-15 Fighter Pilot through the 1st Gulf War.
It was during Rick’s time in the Air Force that he met Jan, his beautiful wife of 24 years. In 1992, he left the active duty Air Force to go to work for a major airline, as a pilot, based in Nashville. Rick was flying 140 people from Dallas to Los Angeles on the morning that the events of September 11th occurred. He has since become a licensed Federal Law Enforcement Officer and qualified to carry a firearm in the cockpit while flying. Rick is still employed as a Boeing 777 international pilot. He and Jan have been blessed with four wonderful children and have been living in Murfreesboro, Tennessee since 1993.
Unwavering Leadership – My Commitment to You!
We all know that Washington D.C. is broken. As conservatives we need to join together to cut spending, reduce the deficit, and balance the budget without any tax increases. I believe that creating new jobs, the revitalization of the housing market, the funding of education, and the repeal of Obama’s socialized takeover of health care, must be top priorities for state government over the next two years.
Additionally, I believe Tennessee must exercise its 10th Amendment Right and ensure our sovereignty as a State. Our Founding Fathers, in writing the U.S. Constitution, realized the danger of placing too much power in any one branch of government. This is why they specifically defined the powers of the federal government in Article I, Section 8. Their intent was to limit the federal government and to ensure that the “States and the People within those States,”retained the power to govern themselves! Because of the
10th Amendment, the Constitution gives no power to the federal government to impose social welfare, healthcare, energy regulation or to confiscate any of the private sector! Only do the individual States, or the people within those States, have that power.
However, President Obama and the Democrats are ignoring the Constitution and usurping it to meet their socialist agenda. Their mantra is bigger government, higher taxes, and out of control spending. The passing of the recent “Obamacare” healthcare bill, is the latest example of the intrusive and destructive policies of the federal government. By 2013,
the State of Tennessee will be forced to pay $1.2 billion dollars per year in unfunded mandates under “Obamacare.” Tennessee does not have $1.2 billion dollars to cover this mandate! Therefore, we would be left with just two options: declare bankruptcy or raise taxes. Either of these options would severely damage our State’s economy and eliminate thousands of jobs!
It is going to take unwavering leadership and an uncompromising commitment to the people of Tennessee to resolve these problems. You have my word; I will provide that leadership and commitment! Together we will overcome the problems facing our state, our local communities, and our families.
Solving our State’s Problems with Conservative Solutions
Ronald Reagan once said, “Freedom is never more that one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.”
That quote is the very reason I now serve as your State Representative. There was a time when our representatives listened to us. There used to be a time when we saw our elected officials put our country first, instead political or financial gain. We need this kind of leadership again. The kind of leadership that will stand up for the State of Tennessee and take on Obama, the Democrats, and the federal government.
As your Representative I will boldly stand up for our State's sovereignty! I will fight to ensure there is no state income tax and that we try to eliminate or reduce the sales tax on food. I will be an unwavering advocate for education, working to fund education before any other general budget item and demanding that excess lottery funds be returned to local school districts for construction projects. I will push for the repeal of “Obamacare” and work to introduce business principles into our health care system. I will seek access to health care savings accounts for all Tennesseans and I will support doctors and nurses by limiting frivolous lawsuits.
I will aggressively work to stop illegal immigration into our state, requiring proof of citizenship before anyone can register to vote, receive taxpayer funded benefits, or acquire
a Tennessee drivers license. I will be your voice that upholds our core values, vigorously protecting the sanctity of life, our 2nd Amendment right to keep and bear arms, and the belief that marriage is between one man and one woman.
This is my commitment to you; I will not compromise my values, nor will I forsake your trust! I will listen, and I will do as I have promised.
